Learning outside the four walls of a school building

Lexi had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with one our neighbors.  She was charged with the job of interviewing a resident of the community.  Much was learned, more so after the camera stopped rolling. Her interviewee started sharing how they used to stand on their porch and call friend's names to come out and play (no phone calls, texts, emails).  She also told us how during the depression the YMCA had a YWCA where teen girls who lost their parents could take up room and have a safe place to reside.  We learned that her husband was an interrogator during World War II, and in turn had many sleepless nights from his experiences. However, most importantly, we spend an afternoon with a lovely lady who welcomed our visit, and loved the company of a 9 year old on a cold, gloomy, snowy Saturday.
